Thanksgiving Cranberry Cocktail

Nothing starts the Thanksgiving night out right like a delicious holiday beverage. I was reading the NYTimes Thanksgiving recipe section and came across the Cranberry Cobbler, a gin drink with cranberry syrup. The drink sounded delicious, but I wanted to make a few adjustments, so I mixed a few things up and found a delicious holiday drink that is just the right amount of sweet and just the right amount of booze (a lot).

Ingredients:
½ cup fresh (or frozen) cranberries
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 lemon
1 orange
 Vodka
Ginger ale

To make:
1.     Bring the sugar and water to a boil
2.     Once dissolved, add cranberries and simmer for 10-15 minutes
3.     Chill cranberry simple syrup for at least 3 hours
4.     Slice the lemon and orange into thin rounds and add to a pitcher
5.     Add in simple syrup and muddle with lemon and orange
6.     Add in vodka (I used a 4:1 vodka to syrup ratio)
7.     Pour over ice and top off with ginger ale
8.     Garnish with a sprig of mint leaves and serve
